important notes.
At some point, I'll put together a proper infopost, but until then, a few important details:
Canonpoints
Post-NYX, basically. I'm not comfortable writing her before she gets out of that whole mess. Canonpoints I especially enjoy include "some mushy point around X-Force or after it" and "some mushy point after she acquires Gabby." At some point, I'd also like to explore what's happening in Age of X-Man, but that'll have to wait until it's actually over. >>
Diction
For a younger, more feral Laura, I tend to take my cues from X-Force rather than Marjorie Liu. The goal in that run, and in others, seems to be formality in general rather than avoiding as many contractions as possible. A mix of "can't" and "cannot," basically, along with a lot of literal thinking and a focus on getting the point across without any regard for tact. Tunnel-vision for missions and objectives. The kind of person who thinks a rhetorical question along the lines of how can I be pregnant? requires a response in the form of we must assume the two of you had sex.
For a post-All New X-Men Laura, I honestly really enjoy the explanation given for why she's started speaking more casually, using more contractions, etc. Laura's search for normalcy and fake-it-til-you-make-it approach to being a person instead of a weapon is part of what appeals to me about the character. So I do try to incorporate the way her voice has developed.
Relationships
I write her as bi but generally preferring men, and I'm open to writing ships with characters of any gender. Any ship is going to take some CR buildup, however.
Given how distantly Laura and Warren's relationship gets written, I tend to treat it as something she got into because it seemed "safe" and projected an air of normalcy. Unlike her feelings for characters like Julian Keller and time-displaced!Scott Summers, she seems to treat Warren with mild affection at best and as an Uber driver with wings at worst. I see it as part of her bid for normalcy, along the lines of her speech change, especially since it occurs at the same time: normal people have normal boyfriends, and they feel normal feelings about them, not passions that are strong and hard to understand and kind of frightening as a result. THAT SAID, I can see their potential, and I really like that they aren't a perfect couple, so if you want to play Laura/Warren, I'd be interested in figuring out how to write it.
Beyond that, I do like both Laura/Julian and Laura/Scott. I don't have any especially strong OTPs for her.
Family and friends
I love any and all Wolverines, Gabby included! (And if you also like Gabby, I do also play her. Hit me up.) Logan and Daken obviously welcome. I'd also be fine with characters from her mother's side of the family, though they seem a bit less likely to run into.
Also interested in her teammates and schoolmates, naturally, though fair warning: I tend to get stuck on one character and read Everything About Them, rather than reading by time period, so I might not be as familiar with another character's arcs. However, if you tag me, I'm obviously going to go brush up! All I ask is patience if I do something dumb. ♥
Upsetting content
Yes.
More seriously, Laura's background contains a number of unpleasant topics, including:
• Medicalized torture, neglect, and abuse
• Forced murder of loved ones and other targets
• Sex trafficking of minors
• Self-injury
If you need more detail on how these subjects play into Laura's character, please feel free to reach out to me. Similarly, if you'd like me to avoid a subject, let me know! I want RPing to be fun for everyone involved.
